About Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon, New Delhi

The Fortis Memorial Research Institute, completed in mid 2012, is the latest Fortis hospital to open its doors to the public. Due to it's ground-breaking levels of luxury it has immediately become the flagship facility of Fortis and is positioned as the ‘next generation hospital’ with a vision to be the ultimate healthcare destination in India.

We were speechless when we visited a few months ago, just before it opened fully to the public. Make no mistake: this hospital sets a new standard for India, perhaps even a new standard for Asia. When you enter, it feels like stepping into vast, new, luxury shopping mall! It eve has a spa, health club, hammam and swimming pool to aid patient recovery.

You should be aware that this hospital does not have JCI accreditation, because it has not been opened long enough to apply yet (JCI will only accredit after 6 months). We are confident not only that Fortis Gurgaon will achieve JCI accreditation soon, but also that it will quickly develop as a hub for premium health travel. We will of course be reviewing this situation closely.

Lung transplant at Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon, New Delhi

A lung transplant is an operation to remove and replace a diseased lung with a healthy human lung from a donor. A donor is usually a person who has died, but in some cases a section of lung can be taken from a living donor.

There are three main types of lung transplant. A single lung transplant – where a single damaged lung is removed from the recipient and replaced with a lung from the donor; this is often used to treat pulmonary fibrosis but is not suitable for people with cystic fibrosis as infection will spread from the remaining lung to the donated lung. A double lung transplant – where both lungs are removed and replaced with two donated lungs; this is usually the treatment of choice for people with cystic fibrosis and COPD. A heart-lung transplant – where the set of lungs and the heart is removed and replaced with donated heart and lungs; this is often recommended for people with severe pulmonary hypertension
